Medical oxygen
All passengers requiring oxygen to be carried on board the flight need medical clearance.
On domestic services, passengers will normally be referred to an authorised oxygen provider like BOC Gases. The passenger will be advised once the MEDA form is received.
In all cases safety regulations do not allow the use of oxygen equipment owned by the passenger or any other authorities. However, a passenger's own oxygen cylinders can be carried as Dangerous Goods and must be packaged by a Dangerous Goods qualified freight company.
For a passenger needing oxygen and travelling on Domestic and International flights as part of the same unbroken journey, Air New Zealand will provide the oxygen for all flights. On Domestic flights, a portable cylinder of oxygen will be provided.
On international flights, Air New Zealand will provide either:
- portable cylinders (short-haul flights);
- a specially designed aircraft oxygen concentrator;
- a large fixed oxygen cylinder that is installed into the seat tracks and requires additional seat space.
Oxygen rate flows are:

Domestic Services |
NZD25.00 - per flight coupon |
If a passenger is flying both domestically and internationally as part of the same journey, they will be charged for BOTH the Domestic and International services. For purely domestic journeys where the passenger contacts the authorised provider directly, no charge is collected by Air New Zealand.
Where the passenger is required to pay for other special equipment (e.g. stretcher or incubator), the oxygen charges are waived.
On long-haul 747 / 767 / 777 flights, we'll normally provide supplementary oxygen through a fitted concentrator. On those occasions when a concentrator cannot be provided at the time medical clearance is received, the passenger should select another flight where a concentrator will be available. For urgent travel when a concentrator is not available oxygen can only be provided by installing large fixed oxygen cylinders into the seat tracks between a row of seats. This requires the blocking off and payment for the additional seat space used.
Please charge the oxygen fee and any applicable fare (passenger and blocked seats).
